Abstract: Objective To study the relationship between healthcare investment and population health from 1990 to 2013 in China so as to find the co-integration relationship. Methods Co-integration regression analysis was conducted to study the relationship between healthcare investment and population health. Results and Conclusion Features in two stages were found: stage one from 1990 to 2005 was characterized by the reduction of healthcare input and the increase of health levels, and the co-integration regression model had a high r-square, up to 0.712. Therefore, it can be concluded that healthcare investment was an important factor affecting population health at this stage. Stage two was from 2006 to 2013 when healthcare investment was increasing, but population health level was decreasing. This model had a low r-square, down to 0.284, which means healthcare input is not the only important factors affecting population health at this stage. In other words, the input-output ratio was at low level.

Key words: healthcare investment, population health, co-integration regression
